Apple Inc. said more than 110 suppliers are transitioning to
renewable energy for their Apple production as the tech giant seeks
to be carbon neutral across its entire business, supply chain and
product life cycle by 2030.
The company said the suppliers' commitments would avoid more
than 15 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent annually,
about the same as taking more than 3.4 million cars off the road
each year.
Apple said it is investing in renewable energy projects to cover
some upstream emissions and an energy-storage project in California
for renewable infrastructure. The company said its California Flats
battery project could store 240 megawatt-hours of energy, which
could power more than 7,000 homes for one day.
