One of the largest donations made from the
Emerging Artists Project in the history of the Foundation
TORONTO, May 14, 2019 /CNW/ - Fresh on the heels of the
7th annual Prism Prize gala held at TIFF Bell Lightbox, where
Kevan Funk + Belle Game were crowned the $15 000 Grand Prize winners, along with Audience
Award winning team Johnny Jansen
+ Said The Whale, the Academy of Canadian Cinema &
Television proudly announced the extension of Music Video
Production (MVP) Project music video fund thanks to a remarkable
grant from the RBC Foundation.
Academy CEO Beth Janson announced
that the RBC Foundation will be donating the largest per
annual basis gift in their history on behalf of The RBC Emerging
Artists Project. A grant of $900,000 will be provided over three years,
increasing the funding of select music video artists to
$300,000 per year. The MVP Project
has received over 350 submissions in each round, consisting of
Pop, Indie Rock, Hip-Hop, Electronic and Dance Music video
treatments.
"The MVP Project is a natural incubator for a diverse group of
incredibly talented and often overlooked emerging visual
storytellers. We are grateful to the RBC Foundation for entrusting
us with the continued stewardship of this program," said
Janson.
"At RBC, our commitment to the arts includes supporting artists
in the earliest stages of their careers and helping artists bridge
the gap from "emerging" to "established"," said Valerie Chort, Vice-President, Corporate
Citizenship, RBC. "We are thrilled to continue our support of the
MVP Project for three more years, and to help even more emerging
Canadian artists, directors and producers make their important
mark."
Since its inception, as a pilot project by Prism Prize
(administered by The Canadian Academy), the MVP Project has created
multiple rounds of funding opportunities for directors, artists and
producers nationwide. With an emphasis on assisting and promoting
talent coast to coast to coast, each round was curated by six
regional jury pools who went on to select teams of Canada's most deserving music filmmaking
teams. To date, the MVP Project has administered eighteen grants to
emerging Canadian artists.
Submission opportunities for round three of the MVP Project will
open in late summer, with a submission deadline of October 1, 2019.
