Aflac Inc. (AFL) said it named Frederick Crawford president and chief operating officer, effective Jan. 1.

The Columbus, Ga., insurer late Tuesday said Mr. Crawford, who currently serves as executive vice president and chief financial officer, will continue to report to Daniel Amos, who remains chairman and chief executive.

Aflac said Max Broden, currently senior vice president, deputy chief financial officer and treasurer, will succeed Mr. Crawford as executive vice president and chief financial officer.
