Royal Dutch Shell PLC reported maintenance work and gas
emissions over the weekend at its Deer Park refining and chemical
facility near Houston.
"Butanes were released to atmosphere during maintenance
activities at the Coker Unit," the refinery said in a statement to
the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. It said the
emissions happened Saturday and lasted about two hours.
"The actions taken to minimize and stop emissions included
immediately stopping the maintenance activities and spraying water
over the gases to control the emissions," the refinery said.
Deer Park is located on the Houston Ship Channel, 20 miles east
of downtown Houston. The facility includes a 326,000-barrel-a-day
refinery.
