Bayer AG said Wednesday that it agreed with a decision to
withdraw a pending motion to settle the case related to its Roundup
herbicide to allow more time to address questions raised by U.S.
District Judge Vince Chhabria.
The German chemicals company said it agreed with Mr. Chhabria,
who questioned Bayer's Roundup settlement plan on Monday while
raising questions on potential future litigation. Mr. Chhabria is
responsible for approving the class action suit.
In the proposed settlement announced at the end of June, Bayer
said it would pay up to $10.9 billion to settle around 100,000
lawsuits alleging that Roundup had caused cancer.
"Bayer remains strongly committed to a resolution that
simultaneously addresses both the current litigation on reasonable
terms and a viable solution to manage and resolve potential future
litigation," the company said.
