MetLife, Inc. (NYSE: MET) today announced it has been recognized
as a Military Friendly® Employer by G.I. Jobs magazine. This is the
fifth year in a row MetLife has been recognized for its commitment
to hiring veterans and fostering a culture that honors the
experiences, traits and skills of those who have served or continue
to serve their country.
G.I. Jobs magazine compiles an annual list of Military Friendly
Employers to recognize companies with supportive policies,
including recruiting efforts, retention programs and support for
National Guard and Reserve service.
MetLife employee Ben McClellan served in the United States Air
Force from 1984-2004. “As a member of the Air Force, I spent my
career supporting three key values – Integrity First, Service
Before Self, and Excellence in All We Do. I have no doubt these
values have allowed me to be successful in many different roles,
especially in the varied roles I have held within MetLife,” said
McClellan, director of onsite services. “As a member of MetLife,
it’s an easy transition given that MetLife’s key values are very
similar – Put Customers First, Be the Best, Make Things Easier, and
Succeed Together.”
MetLife has a long tradition of supporting both active and
former military service members. The company provides
veteran-to-veteran mentorship initiatives as well as career
support, mentoring opportunities and policies to support of
employees while deployed, including continuation of many
benefits.
MetLife employee Eleanor Berberich served in the U.S. Army
Reserves for 8 years. “My time in the military prepared me for the
ups and downs of life and career. There were things I never thought
I could do but that the military showed me I could. One of the
most important was learning how to deal with both expected and
unexpected change. In my current role, we plan strategically but
also have to be able to change direction quickly and precisely,”
said Berberich, assistant vice president for reinsurance operations
& reporting.”
MetLife also supports the Military Veterans Network (MVET), an
employee-founded and employee-run resource group focused on
recruiting military veterans and supporting their career growth at
MetLife. Members of MVET, which is open to all employees, donate
their time to promote the goal of attracting and retaining military
veterans, as well as building a working culture that values
veterans and their contributions.
