McDonald's Corp. is teaming up with reggaeton artist J Balvin on
a meal, the company said, following its successful collaboration
with rapper Travis Scott.
The "Mi Gente" singer's to-go meal, which includes a Big Mac,
fries, ketchup and an Oreo McFlurry, will be offered until Nov. 1,
the fast-food chain said. Customers can get the McFlurry offering
for free when they order through the McDonald's app, the company
said.
The Colombian performer whose real name is Jose Alvaro Osorio
Balvin is a major crossover star. In February, he joined actress
and music star Jennifer Lopez at the Super Bowl during her
performance at the halftime show. He has more than 44.1 million
followers on Instagram and roughly 16.3 billion views on
YouTube.
"From topping charts around the world to landing countless award
nominations, J Balvin is a trailblazing international icon," Morgan
Flatley, McDonald's U.S. chief marketing officer, said in prepared
remarks.
The collaboration comes on the heels of the chain's partnership
with Mr. Scott, which ended Sunday. That order included a Quarter
Pounder with cheese, lettuce and bacon, a medium order of fries
with barbecue sauce and a Sprite, McDonald's said. Many fans of the
rapper visited McDonald's to try the food and posted about it on
social-media platforms, while Mr. Scott has been wearing clothing
that features the company's logo.
McDonald's said the Travis Scott meal was the first time in
almost three decades that it showcased a celebrity's name on its
menu. The last celebrity to be featured was basketball icon Michael
Jordan.
