Class of 2018 to Gather for In-Person
Graduation Ceremonies
Idaho Virtual Academy (IDVA), a statewide online public charter
school, will celebrate the Class of 2018 – the school’s 10th
graduating class – with three in-person graduation ceremonies
across the state.
More than a third of this year’s graduating class will graduate
with honors. Lauren Moon will serve as the valedictorian of the
Class of 2018 and will speak at the Northern Idaho graduation at
the Kroc Center in Coeur d’Alene on June 24. Moon will also
graduate with her associate degree thanks to dual credit
opportunities, and she plans to attend Willamette University in the
fall.
Aaron “Cord” Myler is IDVA’s salutatorian and will speak at the
school’s Southeastern Idaho graduation at Taylorview Middle School
in Idaho Falls on June 21. Myler will study engineering at Utah
State University on a $56,000 Legacy Scholarship. Myler has been
offered $110,000 in scholarships from five different
universities.
Ezra Kennedy, an honors student, will serve as the student
speaker at IDVA’s Southern Idaho graduation at Northwest Nazarene
University’s Brandt Center in Nampa on June 23. Kennedy also plans
to study engineering at Utah State on a full-ride presidential
scholarship.
Collectively, IDVA’s 183 graduates have been offered more than
$604,000 in college scholarships, with more than 60 percent of the
class planning to attend college. Students report that they have
been accepted to colleges and universities across the country,
including Boise State University, Idaho State University,
University of Idaho, University of Utah, University of Washington,
Washington State University, University of Denver, Montana State
University, University of Northern Iowa, University of Hawaii at
Manoa, University of New York-Prague, Jagieollonian University in
Poland, The Julliard School and College of Western Idaho, among
others. In addition, six students intend to enlist in the
military.
“Graduation is a wonderful time to celebrate our students’ hard
work and many accomplishments,” said IDVA head of school Kelly
Edginton. “The Class of 2018 is an especially impressive group and
we can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.”
IDVA provides students statewide in kindergarten through 12th
grade with a learning environment that works for them. The range of
classes, extracurricular activities and supportive community give
students of all abilities and backgrounds the chance to thrive.
