Daimler AG's (DAI.XE) Mercedes-Benz said Tuesday that it plans
to build a battery factory at its production site in Jawor, Poland,
as part of its electric car initiative.
Mercedes is extending its global battery production network to
nine factories on three continents with the addition of the Jawor
battery factory, it said. Up to 300 new jobs will be created at the
site in Poland as a result, it said.
Mercedes said it is investing "more than one billion euros in a
global battery-production network", although it didn't disclose the
volume of investment for the battery factory in Jawor.
The German car maker's production site in Jawor is currently
under construction, with engine production set to start later this
year. Production of batteries for vehicles in Mercedes's EQ product
and technology brand is slated to start at the beginning of the
next decade, Mercedes said.
The battery factory in Jawor is the second-largest investment at
the new Mercedes-Benz site, it said.
