An Air Canada flight to Tel Aviv altered course shortly before
its scheduled landing Friday after airport authorities asked it to
do so, a spokeswoman for the airline said.
The flight landed safely.
"Our flight AC84 originating from Toronto was advised by Israeli
Air Traffic Control to perform a standard go-around until airspace
conditions could be confirmed as safe for landing," said Isabelle
Arthur, a spokeswoman for Montreal-based Air Canada.
An Al Jazeera report said three rockets were fired toward the
airport Friday. Ms. Arthur wouldn't comment on the whether the
flight's altered course was related to the rocket fire.
Air Canada resumed its daily service to Tel Aviv on Thursday,
shortly after the Federal Aviation Administration lifted a ban on
U.S. carriers flying to Tel Aviv. That ban had led a number of
airlines outside the U.S. to also suspend flights to Tel Aviv.
An Air Canada flight from Tel Aviv to Toronto departed on
Friday. A Toronto to Tel Aviv flight is scheduled to depart later
Friday, Ms. Arthur said.
"The safety of our passengers and crew is our first priority and
we will continue to monitor developments very closely," Ms. Arthur
said.
Airlines and passengers are growing more anxious about safety
since a Malaysia Airlines commercial passenger flight was shot down
over eastern Ukraine last week, killing all 298 people on
board.
