Shares of tobacco companies are trading higher in U.S. markets Wednesday, following an announcement from The White House that President Donald Trump plans to meet Friday with parties on both sides of the vaping debate.

Around 2:15 p.m. EST, shares of Altria Group Inc. (MO) were trading 3.4% higher at $48.52. Shares opened at $46.79 and traded as low as $46.64 before reversing losses. American depository receipts of British American Tobacco PLC (BTI) were trading 3.16% higher on the Nasdaq at $38.40. Shares opened at $36.85 and had moved slightly into the red earlier in the session. Philip Morris Intl. (PM) shares were slightly higher, gaining 0.41% to trade at $83.80. They had also dipped below their opening price earlier in the day before recovering.
