Linde AG (LINU.XE) said Tuesday that it has entered a long-term helium-purchase agreement with Russian gas giant Gazprom PJSC's (GAZP.RS) subsidiary Gazprom Export LLC.

The German industrial gas company said it will buy significant volumes of helium from Gazprom's Amur helium plant, which is currently under construction in the eastern Russian town of Svobodny.

The first supplies of helium are targeted for 2021, Linde said.

Helium is used for a wide range of applications, such as manufacturing and operating magnet-resonance imaging scanners as well as manufacturing semiconductors, LCD screens and fiber-optic cable.

The company didn't disclose financial details of the agreement.
