Deutsche Post AG (DPW.XE) said Tuesday that it has sent
volunteers to the Bahamas to handle relief supplies for the victims
of Hurricane Dorian.
DHL said the move is part of its partnership with the United
Nations to provide both the UN and other disaster-management
organizations at country level with assistance managing airport
logistics and warehousing incoming relief aid during
natural-disaster recovery efforts.
The German logistics provider said the first relief supplies
delivered by the International Federation of Red Cross were
transported by Deutsche Post DHL Group employees to a UN warehouse
for distribution to those in need in Freeport, Nassau and Abaco. It
said more than 136 metric tons of relief goods have already been
dispatched.
The company said its disaster-response team has been deployed
more than 40 times since it partnered with the UN in 2005. In
addition to disaster response teams, DHL said it trains airport
management in risk regions to be better prepared for disasters.
