U.K. communications regulator Ofcom said Friday that
applications from BT Group PLC's EE, CK Hutchison Holdings Ltd.'s
Three, Telefonica SA's O2 and Vodafone Group PLC have qualified to
take part in an upcoming 5G spectrum auction.
The regulator said it is planning to release airwaves in the
700-megahertz and 3.6-3.8 gigahertz bands, which are likely to be
used by telecommunications operators for services including 5G.
Bidding is expected to start by the end of January, Ofcom
said.
Qualified applicants have until Wednesday to withdraw from the
process, the regulator said.
