OAO Russian Railways is looking at the possibility of buying 20 high-speed trains from France's Alstom (ALO.FR), Interfax reported, citing a senior vice president at the Russian railroad company, Valentin Gapanovich.

Russian Railways is looking at Alstom's AGV model, capable of reaching speeds of up to 360-kilometers-an-hour, for the Moscow-St. Petersburg route, the newswire reported.

The railroad operator is studying the possibility of building a parallel railroad to the existing line between Russia's biggest cities as part of a project costing hundreds of billions of rubles, Gapanovich said at a conference in Tallinn, the report said.
