Aviva PLC said Wednesday that it expects the cold weather in the U.K. during December to cost around 50 million pounds ($61.6 million) and that its overall weather experience for the quarter year is marginally above the long-term averages, although in line for the year as a whole.

The FTSE 100 listed insurer said that weather experience in the U.K. & Ireland was only marginally above its long-term averages at 0.4 percentage points, but below average in Canada at minus 0.9 points.

Aviva said its dividend guidance and outlook for capital returns remain unchanged. Last November the company said that it expects to pay a dividend of 31.0 pence a share for 2022, and 32.5 pence for 2023.

It also said at the time that the board expects to start more capital returns to shareholders with the 2022 full-year earnings.

The company made the disclosure ahead of an investor and analyst briefing on its U.K. general insurance personal lines business.

It said that the GI businesses in the U.K., Ireland and Canada continued to trade positively over the closing months of 2022.

Aviva also said that it estimates 2022 a group combined operating ratio of 94.6%.
