Chinese billionaire Li Shufu has bought a 9.69% stake in Daimler AG (DAI.XE), the German car maker said late Friday in a regulatory filing.

The stake is worth nearly 7.5 billion euros ($9.22 billion), according to Friday's closing price.

Li Shufu is the head of Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd.
