PASO ROBLES, Calif.,
May 26, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/
-- Dr. Kalyan Gaddam, ND, a Board-certified Naturopathic
Doctor, recently announced the release of the clinic study "Effects
of free amino acids mix with medium triglycerides and Withania
somnifera on cancer cachexia." The results are being released in
conjunction with the annual meeting of the American Society of
Clinical Oncology (ASCO) that begins May 31,
2019 in Chicago, IL.
Dr. Gaddam, ND has dedicated his professional life to education
and research and creating a healing environment for his patients.
The research projects he has participated in have led to results
that help strengthen the body's natural healing ability. The
research team led by him conducted clinical trials evaluating the
benefits of E2 Energy nutritional powder that was consumed by
cancer patients with cachexia. Dr. Gaddam, ND led the earlier
research that developed E2 Energy.
He participated in a Q&A session with the staff from the
Paso Robles Daily News to talk about this groundbreaking study.
Q: What is cancer cachexia and why is this study so
important?
A: Cancer cachexia, also known as wasting syndrome, causes
weight loss, weakness, low energy, muscle loss, anemia and
anorexia. It is also common to other diseases such as HIV, chronic
renal failure and multiple sclerosis. Our study focused on the
benefits to cancer patients.
Q: How does the nutritional powder differ from other cachexia
treatments?
A: Traditional nutritional support has not been successful in
cancer cachexia. Most of the commercially available products have
shown little to no effect.
The ingredients, in the nutritional powder, branched-chain amino
acids, medium chain triglycerides, or MCTs, plus the herb Withania
somnifera, all help build muscle and strength in addition to other
benefits. It is also shown to improve fatigue in cancer
patients
Q: What were the results of the trial?
A: We found that 14 patients had an overall improvement in the
Piper Fatigue Score, 12 increased muscle mass and six patients
either maintained or gained weight.
Q: What's the next step now that the results are in?
A: We are certainly encouraged and are now working on
re-branding E2 Energy to release it commercially. It's been my goal
to make it available for everyone since first formulating E2
Energy.
Q: What led you to this project?
A: I've always had a strong desire to help people live better
and healthier. My medical career has always included research,
looking for better solutions. Along with my ongoing oncology
research into weight loss in cancer patients, I have led research
teams that have developed natural nutritional products for Ayush
Herbs and YouVeda, LLC. My research at Ayush Herbs contributed to
the company's formulation of nutraceuticals for their products. I
currently sit on the Board of Directors for YouVeda and am a
co-formulator for their products, as well.
This early research put me in a good position to work as the
principal investigator in this most recent clinical trial at the
Comprehensive Blood and Cancer Center where I work in Bakersfield.
Q: What are your other areas of practice besides oncology?
A: I'm fortunate to have a comprehensive breadth of practice to
call upon, but if I have to narrow it down, I would say non-opioid
pain management and focusing on nutritional and natural ways to
overcome pain and illness.
Q: How do you treat for pain without using opioids?
A: I use a number of treatments, including prolotherapy or
peri-neural injections, platelet-rich plasma therapy,
interferential, galvanic current, ultrasound, and Cold laser. For
patients already using opioids or narcotics, I also use safe,
natural alternatives to get them off these drugs. Pain management
includes mind-body support through meditation, breathing exercises
and yoga, too.
Q: What kinds of nutritional protocols do you recommend for your
patients?
A: Good, basic nutrition is always recommended and I have
recently started a personalized wellness diet plan as a joint
venture with the Wellness Café in Bakersfield. This is the only program of its
kind in Kern County, and benefits
so many who are dealing with debilitating and life-threatening
diseases including cancer, diabetes, celiac, inflammatory bowel
diseases like Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and many more.
When a patient comes to me, I create a customized nutritional
program, and the Wellness Café prepares the food based on the menu
I provide them.
