MUMBAI--Ambuja Cements Ltd. (500425.BY) Thursday posted a better-than-expected 35% rise in its second-quarter net profit due to higher product prices and sales volume.

The unit of Swiss cement maker Holcim Ltd. (HCMLY) posted a net profit of 4.69 billion rupees ($83.8 million) for the April-June quarter, compared with 3.48 billion rupees a year earlier.

Sales rose 18% to 25.66 billion rupees.

The average of estimates from five analysts was for a net profit of 4.54 billion rupees on sales of 25.43 billion rupees.
