European space launch services company Arianespace said Thursday its board has nominated Stephane Israel to the post of chairman and chief executive.

MAIN FACTS:

- Mr. Israel is currently the chief of staff of French Industry Minister Arnaud Montebourg.

- The position of chief executive at Arianespace has been vacant since its previous occupant, Jean-Yves Le Gall, was appointed to head the French national space agency CNES earlier this month.

- Prior to taking his ministerial job last May, Mr. Israel worked in the aerospace industry in 2007 as advisor to European Aeronautic Defence & Space Co (EAD.FR) chief executive Louis Gallois, and later worked for Astrium, EADS' space business division.
