Medical Nutrition USA, Inc. (NASDAQ: MDNU) today announced the results of a clinical study showing that 91% of women with recurrent urinary tract infections remained symptom-free while taking the company's UTI-Stat® (ProAntinox®) supplement. The study, which was published by Urology, the official journal of the International Society of Urology, also found that UTI-Stat® (ProAntinox®) significantly improved quality of life as measured by the American Urologic Association Symptom Index.

The clinical trial was conducted by Dr. Aaron E. Katz, Professor of Clinical Urology at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and Director of the Center for Holistic Urology. Dr. Katz and his team in three outpatient urology clinics administered UTI-Stat® (ProAntinox®) daily for 12 weeks to 28 women from 34 to 59 years of age who had at least three UTIs in the previous six months. Blood and urine samples were collected and analyzed for the presence of infection, and safety monitoring was continuously performed during the study period.

"Results showed that UTI-Stat® (ProAntinox®) had a good safety profile and tolerability, and demonstrated effectiveness in significantly reducing the anticipated incidence of recurrent UTI and improving quality of life in females with a history of UTI," Dr. Katz said.

UTI-Stat® (ProAntinox®) is currently used in many nursing homes and hospitals, where the incidence of urinary tract infections is higher than in the general public. A 2008 study of 88 nursing home residents with recurrent UTI showed that 92% remained symptom-free while taking UTI-Stat (ProAntinox®).
