Sales at Costco Wholesale Corp. in the May retail month rose, the company reported Thursday.

The company said comparable sales for the four-week period rose 22.8%. Out of the company's U.S., Canada and other international segments, Canada saw the biggest year-over-year growth at 28.8%. The company said comparable e-commerce sales rose 12.1%.

Costco reported that comparable sales, not including gas price change impacts or foreign exchange effects, increased 14.7%. A 16.7% increase in the U.S. segment drove that rise, while those sales for Canada and the company's other international segment rose under 10%. Comparable e-commerce sales, when not including those impacts, rose 8.7%, Costco said.

Net sales at the company for the May retail month were $15.59 billion, Costco said. They rose around 24.2% year over year.
