Eni SpA (ENI.MI) said Wednesday that it signed a memorandum of understanding with Tunisian Societe National de Distribution des Petroles Agil SA to cultivate castor bean plants at a semi-industrial level for the production of sustainable biofuels.

"This will be the world's first example of semi-industrial nonfood being cultivated in a pre-desert area to generate sustainable biofuels," the Italian energy company said.

It will be an opportunity to develop a local sustainable agro-energy supply chain, Eni said.
