--GlaxoSmithKline Chairman Philip Hampton has talked to major shareholders about possibly spinning off the company's consumer division, the Financial Times reported Friday.

--The report said GSK's agreement to buy Novartis AG's stake in a joint venture could help the prospects for a separation of the consumer business.

--The potential spinoff could take place within two or three years, the FT reported.
