Start the Holiday Season with Festive Togetherness and Hands-On Activities

Discovery Cube will host their annual Science of Gingerbread Competition and Festival at their Orange County and Los Angeles locations from November 23, 2018 through January 6, 2019. This festive event brings families, companies, schools and organizations together as they work to create and submit their best edible creation. Those interested in participating in this year’s competition will need to fill out an entry form on Discovery Cube’s website and submit entries from November 17 – December 2, 2018. Each submission will receive an invite to the Gingerbread Awards Ceremony on the night of December 7, 2018, where winners for each category will be announced. Award categories include: Best Holiday Theme, Best by an Organization, Best Youth 5 & under, Best Youth 6-13, Best Youth Group/Troop/Scout, Best by a Classroom, Best by a Member of the Cube, Best Science Theme and President’s Theme Award. Discovery Cube encourages the use of heat, math, engineering and other important components in order to bake and create the holiday confection everyone loves.

Discovery Cube inspires and educates young minds through engaging science-based programs and exhibits to create a meaningful impact on the communities they serve. Their mission is brought to life through the cornerstones of their four core initiatives, including: STEM Proficiency, Early Learning, Healthy Living and Environmental Stewardship. Science of Gingerbread represents their evolving commitment to expand STEM proficiency by keeping up with the holidays and trends that are capturing kids’ attention – and creating a way to approach science education through community bonding to kick off the holiday season. Along with the gingerbread creations on display throughout Discovery Cube, The Science of Gingerbread daily program includes:

  • Winter Sleighs – Design, build and zip your very own vehicle through the holiday skies.
  • The Elves Workshop – Tinker like an elf, and construct a toy contraption.
  • Climate Discovery – It’s Winter somewhere, experiment with Fahrenheit in the So Cal winter temperatures.
  • Daily Stage Show “Sweet Structures” – Learn the fundamentals of design and engineering in the kitchen.
  • Plus, what’s a holiday season, without Cookie Decorating? Join Discovery Cube in the bakeshop for a sweet treat!
