MasterCard Inc. on Wednesday announced an agreement to acquire
Pinpoint Pty., which provides loyalty and rewards services across
the Asian-Pacific region.
Terms of the transaction, which is expected to close in the
second quarter, weren't disclosed.
Pinpoint, which was founded in 1984 and is based in Australia,
manages rewards programs for financial institutions and merchants.
The markets it serves includes China, India, Taiwan and Japan.
Pinpoint manages over 35 million customers in its reward and
loyalty programs. MasterCard said it aims to help Pinpoint's
merchants target new customers, while retaining their existing
client base.
"Not only does Pinpoint offer a competitive edge in Australia,
its growing presence across Asia Pacific also holds much promise
and will allow us to offer more effective programs to our customers
and cardholders," said Vicky Bindra, a MasterCard executive for the
company's operations in Asia/Pacific, the Middle East and
Africa.
