Nestle SA (NESN.EB) said Wednesday it plans to have women in 30% of its top 200 senior executive positions by 2022, up from around 20% today.

"We know that improving gender balance will lead to better decisions, stronger innovation and higher employee satisfaction," said Mark Schneider, chief executive officer at Nestle.

As it hires and promotes more women to senior executive positions, Nestle will provide mentoring and sponsorship programs for high-potential women, encourage parental leave and support managers in eliminating bias during training, the company said.

Despite men holding the majority of the company's senior executive positions, Nestle said that 43% of its managers are women.

"We are confident that everyone, men and women, will play a key role in advancing gender equality and creating a better place to work," said Beatrice Guillaume-Grabisch, Nestle's executive vice president.

In 2016, some 11% of senior executives at the world's largest 500 companies were women, according to the Gender Forward Pioneer Index.
