--Nestle is in early stage talks to buy a majority stake in Canadian premium-pet-food maker Champion Petfoods, after similar discussions were called off earlier this year, the FT reports, citing unnamed sources.

--There is no guarantee that the talks will lead to a deal and it isn't clear that Champion's shareholders want to sell, the FT says.

--Earlier this year the WSJ reported that Nestle was looking to acquire a controlling stake in the company for more than $2 billion.
