Essex Board Joined by Dr. Anthony Johnson COLUMBIA, Md., April 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Essex Corporation announces the appointment of Dr. Anthony Johnson as an independent director on Essex's Board of Directors. Dr. Johnson is Director of the Center for Advanced Studies in Photonics Research (CASPR) and Professor of Physics and Professor of Computer Science & Electrical Engineering at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). Dr. Johnson succeeds Mr. Frank Manning who has retired from the Board. Mr. Manning, the founder of Essex Corporation, retains his position as Chairman Emeritus of Essex. The Essex Board consists of 9 members, of whom 6 are independent. Dr. Johnson became the Director of CASPR in 2003. He was the Chairperson & Distinguished Professor of the Department of Applied Physics and Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology from 1995 to 2003. Prior to this, from 1981 until 1995, he was a Member of Technical Staff at AT&T Bell Laboratories in Holmdel, NJ. In 2002, he served as the President of the Optical Society of America and is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Optical Society of America, and a Charter Fellow of the National Society of Black Physicists. He received his B.S. in Physics (Magna Cum Laude) in 1975 from Polytechnic Institute of New York, and his Ph.D. in Physics from City College of New York.
