While the Massachusetts power system has fared mostly well in
the winter storm, that isn't the case on the island of Nantucket,
where utility National Grid lost power to all 12,800 customers
Tuesday morning due to a frozen substation.
They are using back-up generation to keep critical customers
like hospitals and shelters going, Marcy Reed, president of
National Grid in Massachusetts, said on a call with reporters. She
was hestitant to project when they will restore all power due to
the continuing storm.
"Conditions are still quite terrible down there with
hurricane-force winds," she said.
