NEW YORK, Aug. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The American
Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC) Annual Meeting and
Clinical Lab Expo, which took place July 26–30 in Atlanta, Georgia, featured new science and
novel technology in all areas of clinical diagnostics – including a
new and novel technology for urine drug testing. Kalorama
Information noted that UR Code by Marker Test Diagnostics
represents a unique approach to drugs of abuse testing that means
to eliminate observed collections, false negative results, and
manipulation while attempting to provide an accurate and secure
drug-testing solution. The market research publisher attends the
AACC meeting each year and notes developments for its reports in
the IVD market. Their latest comprehensive market report, The
Worldwide Market for In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) Tests, 9th
Edition, covers not just drugs of abuse testing and
urinalysis but all of the major segments of clinical lab testing
including core lab, point of care (POC), histology and cytology,
lab-based infectious disease immunoassays by test, molecular
assays, hematology, molecular test sales, infectious diseases,
lab-based immunoassay sales by analyte type, coagulation,
microbiology and virology by test type, and blood banking.

As sample integrity is one of the biggest issues in drug
testing, UR Code has been introduced to the market. Even under
observation, sample adulteration and/or substitution is very
common. UR Code is an oral marker that internally "bar-codes" a
subject's urine. The goal of UR Code is to make sample substitution
impossible so that authorities can finally rely on truly accurate
results. As observed collections are invasive, inefficient,
expensive, and require extensive organizational effort, UR Code
aims also to eliminate the need to supervise urine collection.
UR Code is a soft-gel capsule that acts as a marker to code a
person's urine. This code can only be detected through liquid
chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) laboratory
testing. Neither the person providing the sample nor the soft-gel
provider can predict which UR Code combination is given.
The soft-gel capsule contains polyethylene glycol, a substance
on the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) list of inactive
ingredients, cleared for humans and without side effects.
Polyethylene glycols are not naturally found in urine and they have
different molecular weights that enable the creation of 1,000
different marker types.
The test subject takes the UR Code capsule under supervision. UR
Code is absorbed, not metabolized, and quickly cleared through the
kidneys. Thirty minutes later, urine can be collected without
supervision. The laboratory is therefore able to verify whether the
sample urine contains the correct UR Code combination.
Marker Test Diagnostics, the maker of UR Code, has completed
research studies in the fields of addiction and sports, and has
collaborated and published scientific papers with the Olympic
Doping Laboratory at the University of
California Los Angeles, and the Columbia University / New
York State Psychiatric Institute.
