Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC's Lysol Disinfectant Spray has
received U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approval for use
against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19.
The EPA said Monday that its approval of the spray and Lysol
Disinfectant Max Cover Mist last week represent its first such
approvals of surface disinfectants. The Lysol products, popular
with consumers seeking to reduce coronavirus risks, were on the
EPA's "List N" of products meeting the criteria for
effectiveness.
The List N entries for the two items were updated "to show they
have now been tested directly against SARS-CoV-2." The EPA said
these are the first List N products for which the EPA reviewed
laboratory testing data and approved label claims against
SARS-CoV-2.
Lysol Disinfectant Spray was tested per EPA guidelines and was
found to kill the virus at two minutes of use, Reckitt Benckiser
said. The spray was also reviewed in a peer-reviewed study of its
effectiveness published in the American Journal of Infection
Control, the company said.
