BERLIN--German technology giant Siemens said Monday it had received an order for a high-voltage direct-current power transmission link in Canada valued at C$800 million ($708.8 million).

As part of a consortium, Siemens will supply thyristor technology for the transmission link and Mortenson Construction will be responsible for the construction of the converter stations, connecting the Keewatinohk station in northern Manitoba with the Riel station near Winnipeg with approximately 1400 kilometers of overhead line.

The link is scheduled to begin transmission in the summer of 2018 and will have a transmission capacity of 2,300 megawatts.
