French telecommunications company Iliad has made an offer to acquire the Italian operations of U.K. rival Vodafone Group PLC, an Iliad spokeswoman told The Wall Street Journal Tuesday.

Iliad's offer is for 100% of Vodafone Italia, the spokeswoman confirmed, although she didn't provide further details.

Vodafone declined to comment.

A deal would mark Iliad's first major raid on a rival since billionaire businessman Xavier Niel delisted the company last year.
