When you run the scan you look at the results and evaluate them. Typing in the stock picks in https://www.barchart.com/ you seperate the wheat from the chaff by filter. You keep the ones that have a "Green Strong Buy" with a "100%" endorsement only.



Even later if the ratings vary it is ok, timing is everything for the beginning of this trade method.

For instance this stock is still good. It was the best with Green Strong Buy and 100% endorsement previously, it is simply digesting its gains before the next move up.



One can use various methods to maintain profits. Some are complex and some are simple. The simplest is a 50 day moving average. If the stock later closed below the 50 day moving average, perhaps it is time to release and rescan.

I personally prefer checking stocks out on https://stockcharts.com/ and type in the stock symbol. Then if the bold macd signal line is above 0 then I keep holding. For advanced trading I might venture into selling covered calls when the RSI is above 70 to reduce risk and enhance profits.

For example we see RRGB is bullish, and indeed the MACD is above 0.

This chart is fine until the inevitable MACD end of day close below zero some day. This is no problem as usually it is a prompt to take profits to reinvest elsewhere and expand via compound investment.

Shares of Red Robin Grourmet Burgers Inc. RRGB+30.18% ran up 27% in active premarket trade Thursday, after the restaurant chain disclosed that its third-largest shareholder, Vintage Capital Management LLC, said it was prepared to make a buyout bid for the company. In a letter Red Robin's board of directors, Vintage, which owns 1.5 million shares, or 11.5%, of Red Robin's outstanding shares, said it was prepared to pay $40 a share in cash an auction to buy the rest of Red Robin shares that it didn't already own. That would represent a 57% premium to the stock's Wednesday closing price, and would value the company at about $519 million. Earlier this month, Red Robin adopted a shareholder rights plan, known as a poison pill, aimed at protecting the company from a hostile takeover. Vintage said it has sought communication with management to help drive an improvement in the strategic direction and to help recruit "an 'A+' operator" to accept the chief executive officer role, given that "it is clear that many such quality candidates are refusing to entertain the opportunity due to the lack of confidence in the board's leadership and Red Robin's disastrous operating and market performance." Red Robin's stock has tumbled 52% over the past 12 months, while the S&P 500 SPX+0.41% has gained 3.8%.

Sentiment in NASDAQ:RRGB is not great heading into earnings , this analysis is purely highlighting the possibility of a reversal trade in a extremely beaten down stock. There is the possibility that it is so bad it's good, but very risky, considering that revenue and earnings are expected to be a miss as a result of high labour costs, new advertising campaigns and store remodeling. The stock has a very high short interest, so any upside surprise and a huge short squeeze will rocket it higher.

It looks bearish right now, it just broke down through a continuation pattern called a bear flag. If you want to hold on to it and can buy put options that can help out. Otherwise consider having a price in mind where you would close the position. Red Robin Appoints Glenn B. Kaufman to the Board of Directors

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo., Aug 05, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, Inc., (NASDAQ: RRGB) today announced the appointment of Glenn B. Kaufman to its Board of Directors, effective August 4, 2010.
Mr. Kaufman is a Managing Member of The D Cubed Group, a private market investment firm with a long-term value creation strategy centered on supporting each company and its executives in driving continuous improvement in business quality. Prior to forming D Cubed he spent 11 years at American Securities Capital Partners, where he was a Managing Director since 2001. During his tenure Mr. Kaufman spearheaded the firm's investing in the restaurant and franchising, and healthcare sectors. He served as Chairman or a Director of Potbelly Sandwich Works, El Pollo Loco, Press Ganey Associates, Anthony International and DRL Holdings.

JASDIP says strong buy!

Red Robin Gourmet Burgers Inc. (NasdaqGS: RRGB - News), the casual dining restaurant operator, recently reported its first-quarter 2010 results. The quarterly earnings of 32 cents per share surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 4 cents, and up 28.0% from 25 cents posted in the prior-year quarter.

Quarterly Performance

Total revenue in the quarter improved 1.7% year over year to $275.5 million. Red Robin’s total revenue comprises restaurant sales (up 0.3% to $267.5 million), franchise royalties and fees (up 0.4% to $4.2 million) and other revenue (up more than 100.0% to $3.8 million).

Comparable restaurant sales slashed 2.3% for company-owned restaurants in the reported quarter compared with an 8.1% decrease in the comparable period in the prior year, driven by a 2.4% decline in the average guest check, partially offset by a 0.1% increase in guest counts. Comparable sales for franchise restaurants in the U.S. dropped 2.1% year over year, while the same for Canada rose 4.8% year over year.

Selling, general and administrative expenses in the quarter leaped 24.2% year over year to $30.8 million attributable to investment in the company’s television media campaign.

Operating profit of Red Robin spiked up 7.6% year over year to $7.8 million and operating margin was up 10 basis points (bps) to 2.8% in the quarter, as its television advertising initiative lured more guests.

Tax Rate decreased to 17.1% from 25.3% in the previous year comparable quarter, primarily due to more favorable general business and tax credits.

Financial Aspects

Red Robin ended its first quarter with cash and cash equivalents of $13.9 million, total outstanding debt of $170.2 million and with shareholders’ equity of $295.2 million. Total debt includes $113.3 million in borrowings under its $150 million term loan, $50.5 million of borrowings under its $150 million revolving credit facility and $6.3 million outstanding for capital leases.

Outlook

Red Robin reduced its revenue forecast for fiscal 2010 in the range of $872 million to $880 million from its previous expectation of $887 million to $895 million. The company also cut its 2010 earnings estimates to $1.10 to $1.30 per share, from its prior view of $1.27 to $1.45 per share. The company expects comparable restaurant sales to rise between 0% and 1% in fiscal 2010. The company intends to stress more on brand awareness through a national advertising campaign.

In fiscal year 2010, Red Robin plans to open 12 to 13 company-owned restaurants, and 3 to 4 franchised restaurants.

Our Recommendation

As the company has reduced its outlook, we maintain our Zacks #3 Rank on the stock, which translates into a short-term Neutral recommendation. Our long-term recommendation for the stock also remains in the middle of the road at Neutral.

Apart from Red Robin, another stock that promises long-term growth opportunities is Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. (NYSE: CMG - News), for which we currently have an Outperform recommendation as it remained largely unruffled by the recent economic slowdown and reported a strong first quarter earnings of $1.19 per share, outpacing the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 95 cents.
