AirNet Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: ANCC), the technology leader in software defined base station products for wireless communications, today announced that it has been showcasing the capabilities of the RapidCell base station at various locations in the U.S. for a Government Communications end user. An undisclosed, leading OEM aerospace and defense contractor who has purchased RapidCell base stations has paid AirNet to help conduct these "mini" field trials. End user personnel have been utilizing the base stations in a variety of different simulations and exercises. In one field trial, the OEM has integrated the RapidCell base station with their situational awareness system offering. Deployed inside a tent with a portable external, telescoping mast and antenna, the RapidCell base station provides the backbone for a rapidly deployable, highly reliable wireless voice and data network that streams real time position, location and tracking information to a control center for viewing using 3-D visualization and graphics. The RapidCell SDR product architecture enables operators to quickly and easily configure an operational network "on the fly". At the other field trial, the OEM has leveraged the flexible SDR architecture of AirNet's RapidCell base station to quickly implement proprietary frequency changes via software-only modifications, enabling personnel to operate in a government frequency band without interfering with other equipment in adjacent commercial frequency bands. Our expectation is that additional orders may be on the near horizon with this customer and they want us to have the capability of building and configuring their RapidCell base stations for immediate deployment." At the same time, AirNet will continue to evaluate and upgrade capabilities through the addition of new software features.
