W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.,
Sept. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/
-- Pending approval from its board of directors, ASTM
International announced today the launch of a new committee focused
on developing technical standards for exoskeletons and exosuits.
These products have gained significant attention for their
potential benefits to consumer health, first responders, military,
and general industry applications.
On Thursday, dozens of industry representatives, associations,
government agencies, and others convened at ASTM International's
global headquarters near Philadelphia. At this organizational meeting,
they voted to form a new committee. They also drafted a scope and
filled leadership roles.
Initially, the group plans to focus on standards development in
five technical areas (which will be subcommittees):
- Design and manufacturing,
- Human factors and ergonomics,
- Task performance and environmental considerations,
- Maintenance and disposal, and
- Security and information technology.
The ASTM International board of directors will receive a
recommendation to approve this committee at their October meeting
in Houston. If approved, the
committee plans to host its first official meeting in the coming
months in-person and/or virtually.
