The U.K.'s central bank chief economist, Andy Haldane, is set to step down from his role in June to take on the role of chief executive of the Royal Society for Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.

Mr. Haldane has been with the bank for 32 years, serving as a member on both its Financial Policy Committee and Monetary Policy Committee, the Bank of England said Tuesday.

The bank said that Mr. Haldane will step down from the position after its June meeting and will assume his new post at the RSA in September.

The bank said it will begin its search for a successor in due course.
