Wincanton secures new contract with The Co-op

Wincanton, the largest British third-party logistics company, today announces that it has been appointed by The Co-operative Group ("The Co-op") to launch and operate its newest regional distribution centre in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.

The new three-year contract will see Wincanton manage all warehouse and store delivery operations from the Co-op's regional distribution centre to its new and existing stores in the surrounding area, supporting The Co-op's continued growth and development as one of the UK's leading food retailers.

The new contract is expected to create new roles for around 500 people, including 170 drivers.

This agreement is in addition to Wincanton's existing contract with The Co-op to service its logistics depots in Lea Green, Merseyside and Cardinal, Cambridgeshire, for which Wincanton employs 670 staff and a fleet of over 500 vehicles.

Adrian Colman, CEO of Wincanton, commented: "We are delighted to be working with The Co-operative Group to create a new Regional Distribution Centre. This new contract underlines our position as the UK's leading logistics provider for convenience retail; providing high quality operations of scale that can be flexed to support our customers in the rapidly evolving convenience market."
