Royal Dutch Shell PLC reported an operational disruption and
flaring of gas emissions early Tuesday morning at its Martinez
refinery in northern California.
"A process unit shutdown was detected by the facility's Control
Room which incident resulted in a flaring event," the refinery said
in a statement to the California Emergency Management Agency.
"Approximately 20 minutes after notification technicians were able
to shut the system down, stopping the release."
The 157,000-barrel-a-day refinery is located 30 miles northeast
of San Francisco. In June, PBF Energy announced its plan to
purchase the Martinez refinery from Shell for between $900 million
and $1 billion in a sale expected to close by the end this
year.
