VMware Inc. (VMW) said earnings rose in its most recent quarter as revenue jumped on account of broad-based strength across its products and solutions portfolio.

The Palo Alto, Calif., company reported a profit of $621 million, or $1.50 a share, up from $334 million, or 81 cents a share, a year ago.

VMWare reported adjusted earnings of $1.49 a share. Analysts polled by FactSet were expecting earnings of $1.43 a share on an adjusted basis.

Revenue increased 12% from a year ago to $2.46 billion. Analysts had expected $2.41 billion of revenue in the quarter. License revenue for the quarter grew 10% to $974 million.
