         Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group Announces Support for
                Mitsui Mining Company's Revitalization

Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, Inc. ("SMFG") announced today the
following.

On September 1, 2003, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation ("SMBC") received an
approval notice from the Industrial Revitalization Corporation of Japan ("IRCJ")
for support in revitalizing Mitsui Mining Company, Limited ("Mitsui Mining
Co."), Mitsui Mining Coke Company, Limited, Mitsui Mining Logistics Corporation
and Mitsui Coal Mining Company, Limited.

SMBC today jointly submitted an application based on Clause 22 of IRCJ Act
together with Mitsui Mining Co. and other group companies once again due to the
revision of the part of their revitalization plan, and received an approval
notice of support from IRCJ regarding this revised plan.

SMBC has revised the contents of the financial support announced on September 1,
2003, as shown below, and is expected to effect the support to Mitsui Mining Co.
and other group companies on the condition that other related parties shall
approve the revitalization plan. SMBC, as the main bank, shall take part in the
support together with the IRCJ, in order to realize the revitalization plan.

2. SMFG's Earnings Forecast

SMFGs earnings forecast for the first half of fiscal year ending March 31, 2004,
announced on October 8, 2003, is not revised.
