COPENHAGEN, Denmark,
Oct. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/
-- DockerCon – Docker today announced it has expanded
its partnership with IBM to address the growing demand for its
Modernize Traditional Applications (MTA) program. The Docker MTA
program enables IT organizations to modernize legacy applications
using Docker Enterprise Edition (EE) for application management and
a provider such as IBM for hybrid cloud infrastructure and
professional services. Customers who have participated in the MTA
program to date have realized the portability, agility and security
benefits of the platform and a savings of more than 50 percent of
their total cost of ownership (TCO). Through this expanded
partnership, Docker and IBM will be able to take a broader range of
enterprise customers through the modernization journey with a fast
and efficient process for transforming their legacy applications on
a modern cloud architecture.
"Through Docker EE for IBM Cloud and Docker's MTA Program, the
two companies are making it easier than ever for clients to
modernize their existing applications," said Jason McGee, VP, IBM Cloud Platform. "Today's
announcement from IBM and Docker is another big step forward in our
long-standing partnership to further fuel public cloud adoption
with containers."
As part of this expanded relationship, the two companies are
also announcing Docker EE for IBM Cloud, which enables customers to
use the Docker platform to containerize their existing workloads
and run them in a hybrid cloud environment. Watson AI capabilities,
delivered over IBM Cloud, run on Docker technology, provide
enterprises with the means to take their monolithic applications
and make them smarter, without having to change the original
application. Additionally, certified IBM software will be available
in the Docker Store, simplifying the containerization of existing
software that uses IBM middleware.
Since the launch of the MTA program in April of this year,
Docker and its partners have helped their customers modernize
hundreds of Linux Java and Windows .NET applications with 100
percent success rate. Most enterprise IT organizations have
hundreds or thousands of custom legacy business applications that
are expensive to maintain from both a CapEx (infrastructure) and
OpEx (labor and overhead) standpoint. In fact, it is not uncommon
to see 80 percent of the enterprise IT budget spent on the
maintenance of legacy applications with only 20 percent left for
new initiatives and innovation. With Docker EE and the MTA program,
organizations are able to reduce their TCO and re-allocate their
budgets to new innovations.
"It's not often that the technology of the future can also be
the technology for the past," said Steve
Singh, Chairman and CEO of Docker. "The Docker container
platform that millions of developers are using to build modern
applications and microservices is the same platform that can be
used to modernize and manage your legacy application portfolio. Our
partnership with IBM enables us to expand our MTA program to
address a customer base that wants to make their existing legacy
apps more secure, efficient and portable to both hybrid and public
cloud platforms."
Docker's MTA program is delivered in partnership with Avanade,
Accenture, Booz Allen Hamilton,
Cisco, HPE, IBM and Microsoft. The program delivers a prescriptive
proof-of-concept (POC) comprised of a Docker Enterprise Edition
(EE) subscription, cloud or on premises infrastructure and 30 days
of professional services.

Traditional Applications (MTA) program. The MTA program helps
enterprises transform expensive and difficult to maintain
applications into efficient, secure, and portable modern
applications ready for hybrid cloud environments. Designed for IT
operations teams, Docker EE modernizes existing legacy applications
without modifying source code or re-architecting the application.
