Minister Duncan congratulates Kim
Boutin on this accomplishment
PYEONGCHANG, South Korea,
Feb. 24, 2018 /CNW/ - On behalf of
the Government of Canada and all Canadians, I would like to offer
my most heartfelt congratulations to Kim
Boutin, who today was named Canada's flag-bearer for the
closing ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018. This
announcement was made by the Canadian Olympic Committee in
PyeongChang, South Korea.
Kim's silver and double-bronze medal performances in short track
speed skating have inspired Canadians across the country.
Demonstrating outstanding talent and drive, she represents true
Canadian athleticism and determination, and I look forward to
cheering her on as she leads Team Canada into the PyeongChang
Olympic Stadium.
It has been an exciting journey for our Canadian Olympic Team so
far, and I am honoured to have witnessed many of their amazing
performances, including Canada's largest ever medal total at an
Olympic Winter Games.
Our government recognizes that our athletes are an enormous
source of pride for all Canadians and serve as excellent role
models for all of us, especially our young people.
We have maintained record-level funding to the Canadian sport
system—including our support for the Canadian Olympic Committee,
winter national sport organizations and Own the Podium—to ensure
our athletes reach the podium at every possible opportunity.
Join me in cheering on our Canadian Olympic Team in these final
days of competition and keep showing your #WinningFace. This
unifying social movement will ensure Canada keeps wonderful
memories of our enthusiasm as a whole nation, athletes and
supporters. Go Canada go!
