Ditech Communications Announces General Availability of New Voice Processing Systems which Enable Low-Cost Capacity Expansion for Mobile Operators New Quad Voice Processor (QVP) Systems Focus on Capacity Enhancement and Improved Voice Quality for Mobile Networks MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., April 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ditech Communications Corporation, a leader in the development of voice processing systems for communications networks, today announced general availability of its new Quad Voice Processor(TM) (QVP(TM)) systems, a full line of advanced voice processors for mobile networks. Already in use in customers' networks, the QVP, integrated with Ditech Communications' Voice Quality Assurance (VQA(TM)) software, enables mobile service providers to reduce capacity expansion costs by up to 90% while improving voice quality. Increase Capacity with Improved Sound Quality One of the methods to cost-effectively increase capacity in GSM networks is the utilization of Half-Rate voice compression. Half-Rate vocoders provide an economical channel capacity solution, but their use is often limited because they are associated with degraded voice quality. The QVP system with VQA software dramatically improves the sound of many Half-Rate calls making them as good as or better than, those experienced on Full Rate channels while consuming only half of the radio network capacity. The noise reduction capabilities of VQA also improve the performance of downlink DTX which may lead to additional capacity improvements in the network. In mobile networks, signal weakness, ambient noise and the effects of speech transcoding, all adversely impact call quality. The QVP system with VQA software addresses these impairments with noise cancellation and enhanced speech intelligibility features to significantly improve voice quality performance in the mobile network. "I am excited by our ability to provide this very cost-effective solution which will enable service providers to ease their capacity constraints while continuing to provide a superior listening experience for their mobile subscribers," said Tim Montgomery, Ditech Communications president and CEO. "The QVP system has already demonstrated that it can significantly improve the quality of calls in GSM Half-Rate transmissions where the impact of background noise is more severe and calls are more susceptible to impairments." Availability Ditech Communications' QVP systems offer four T1 or E1 interfaces and are available with a complete suite of VQA software features for improving the end-user's listening experience, especially on mobile networks. The QVP-E family with four E1 interfaces targeted for international deployment, is now generally available in the 400 and the 800 series with a choice of voice processing resources that provide voice quality improvement tailored to network requirements. The QVP-T family with four T1 interfaces, targeted for the North American market, is now available for trials. The QVP is part of Ditech Communications' family of voice processing platforms that range from the SX with a single T1/E1 interface to the industry's first Broadband Voice Processor (BVP) with OC-3 interfaces.
