Autohome Inc $ATHM Sinks After Earnings, Here's The Trade

Autohome Inc (NYSE:ATHM) is an online destination for automobile consumers in China. Earlier today, the company reported earnings that are not being well received by the markets. The stock is trading lower by more than 9.0 percent to $86.58 a share. Traders should note that the stock is now trading down into its 200-day moving average. This key support area is holding up as support right now, but a close below it could signal more selling in the shares. The next key support area for ATHM stock will be around the $70.00 level. This is where the stock will have a major retrace level on the chart and should be defended. It is also important for traders to understand that the Chinese market is down trending and trading lower by nearly 17.0 percent this year.

ATHM closed up a buck today at 67.05 and still holding just my single starter call. Maybe add tomorrow if strength continues. China indicex futures seem mixed at the moment.

JD rallied hard today. Took a 50c loss on the $2 I paid for puts a couple of days ago. Funny thing is, still holding my Sep 15 45 calls from a month ago. I may just break even on them. Good grief, what a ride. They were nearly worthless yesterday, closed at 60c today. I need 46.5 in the stock to get my 1.50 back from them. Was also busy bottomfishing IRBT, but I think 80 is a possibility before it turns up again.

Seller at 66. Still long a starter position here, 1 call, OCT 65, will add on small dips and/or breakout. Seems to be support at 64.5-65 at the moment, any lower and risk could be down to 62.

Tight stop at 65.75 on this long position, though, because market might not be conducive to momentum right now.

Also holding puts on JD, looking for the channel play down to 40 area.

I'm in ATHM again. She got plenty of rest. We'll see how far she goes again.

yes, without a doubt no shortcuts...with regard to this board/stock, still pretty significant buy volume, despite what looks like a peak, bodes well for anyone still holding long term...

No problem. I have to say though that there are no short cuts here. I'm in both of those and although SNPS moved in my favor during the day, earnings were out this evening and it was trading down a bit. Not all of these are going to work out. Make sure you have a good risk management plan in place. Some of these things you will just breeze into and they'll work out instantly. Other trades have to be "worked" to get something out of them. By that I mean cutting losses and maybe resetting your price or buying weakness/selling strength until the real move happens, or maybe you just cut the trade and move on to a fresh idea. Again, no shortcuts. He passed them on to me and I passed them on to you. That's twice removed. It's up to you to do what you can with it. Good luck.

He passed along SNPS, bullish, earnings after close today. Could be a very binary play - lose all your premium if it craps out or another double/triple/etc if the stock pops, but that's what options are for: limiting your downside risk. I'm in the 15 Sep 75 calls. If the stock does nothing the premium will deflate and you lose anyway.

He's also buying JD, I don't know what the immediate catalyst is, so it's probably a technical play - maybe off the support at 44. I'm in the 15 Sep 45 calls. Paid a bit too much this morning, thinking about picking up some 44s now, but keep a close eye on the support at 44 because it is right on the line and it either holds or it doesn't. You have to decide how much breathing room you give it.

It was a great call! He's a real good guy. I made money, but definitely sold way too early. I didn't even get half that move. But a profit, nonetheless. Doubled my money on the Sep 15 50.00 call.
