German industrial conglomerate Siemens AG (SI) will get two-thirds of the EUR500 million contract it is to share with a consortium of companies to connect a wind power farm in the North Sea, a person familiar with the contract told Dow Jones Newswires Friday.

Together with Italian cable manufacturer Prysmian SpA (PRY.MI), Siemens will connect the wind farm in the North Sea to the mainland power grid for the transmission system operator Transpower, a subsidiary of the Dutch grid operator TenneT. Siemens will deliver an offshore platform with a converter, two transformers and switchgear technology while Prysmian will provide the cable connection.

The grid connection will have a transmission capacity of up to 576 megawatts of clean electric power and is scheduled to be in commercial operation by 2013.
