Sainsbury's Retail Head Joins Rival Asda

LONDON--J Sainsbury PLC's (SBRY.LN) retail and operations head
Roger Burnley has resigned to take up a senior role at rival
supermarket chain Asda, a unit of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT).
According to a statement issued by Sainsbury on Tuesday, Mr.
Burnley is leaving the company with immediate effect to take up the
role of chief operating officer at Asda.
Sainsbury's Chief Executive Mike Coupe has assumed the
responsibilities of Mr. Burnley on an interim basis. The U.K.
supermarket chain has commenced a recruitment process to appoint a
successor.
Shares of Sainsbury at 0924 GMT were trading 2.3% lower at 265
pence.
