LONDON--Shares in technology company Arria NLG PLC (NLG.LN) jumped by more than 50% Monday after it announced a collaboration with IBM Watson, part of International Business Machines Corp (IBM), to develop analytics products for the oil and gas sector.

"We see strong commercial opportunity in the combination of IBM Watson's deep query functionality being combined with the Arria NLG Engine's ability to generate natural language and text," said Arria Chief Executive and Chairman Stuart Rogers.

Arria specializes in "natural language generation", a technology enabling machines to analyse data and use it to. Previous oil and gas projects it has been involved in have included helping a client in the Gulf of Mexico use sensor data from rotating equipment to generate recommendations when problems occur.
