Completion of a Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs (CAMPEP) approved residency program will be a prerequisite for application to the American Board of Radiology certification process by the year 2014. At present, only 4 residency programs are CAMPEP approved in Diagnostic Imaging. The AAPM Professional Council estimates that approximately 50 residency positions will be needed annually to satisfy the future demand for Diagnostic Medical Physics experts.
